George Rec Trail
The George Recreational Trail is one example of the many activities in the George area. The 3.97 mile trail was completed in 2009. You may access the trail from every direction in George and encircle the entire community ending up where you began. This concrete path is suitable for walking, rollerblading or bicycling.
You can experience the enjoyment of the trail that will take you along the east and north edge of George, to Locker Park and around the pond, following on along the Rio Grande Creek to the south portion of the city limits where you will hear the harmony of the wheels meeting the pavement as you cross under the bridge next to the Little Rock River. Through the frog ponds you will be serenaded by a choir of frogs. As you travel this scenic route, you can rest at any of the 38 benches placed by families of loved ones. Or you can read over 225 plaques that have been placed in 8’x8’ concrete sections. These square sections are sold for $200 each and are reminders of those interested in the project and the community. If you are interested in purchasing a square or a bench, you may call the George City Office at 712-475-3612 or e-mailing your interest to cityofgeorge@mtcnet.net.
We can see for generations out, a number of people walking, biking, and moving their way towards better health on the trail. We see women, men, and spouses sauntering down the path, sharing stories, secrets and dreams as they sort out their life and put meaning into it. We see teenagers in love, whispering promises of a shared future…we see little boys and girls on bikes, trikes and skates..whisking along in front of tired parents trying to keep up… we see middle-aged folks walking their dogs and sorting through the multiple priorities that face them. And we see the lonely widow/widower who walks along the way wrapped in memories of an easier time. Just like trees give witness to lives, so do paths.

Outdoor Recreation
George is an excellent area for deer and pheasant hunting. There are also numerous birding locations nearby for spotting bald eagles and hawks. A number of good fishing spots are close by including Lake Pahoja, the Rock River, and the Iowa Great Lakes region.
We are a 9 hole frisbee golf course in the city of George, Iowa. Our course embodies all that a park frisbee golf should have. We force players to convert long shots, avoid guardian trees, and throw through windows. The George Frisbee Golf Course has it all. Come down to the campground for a great experience!
Otter Valley Country Club
Otter Valley is a 9-hole golf course that has some challenging holes and great play for all. We welcome play and would love new members. The course is in great shape. Otter Valley is closed to the public for women’s league on Tuesdays at 5:00 and for men’s leagues on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 3:30. Our clubhouse has a restaurant and bar; being a great place for a get together, party, wedding reception, etc. We like doing golf outings and can put together with food for any business or just fun outing. Come give the course a try and call for your fun outing.
